Understanding your hair structure will help you get the best out of your hair. On average we each have 120,000 hairs on our head and to look good they alll need to be in good condition - or at least disguised that way. the outside of the hair is called the cuticle. In strong, shiny hair this lies flat, allowing light to reflect from it (creating shine) and preventing moisture entering the hair (which causes frizzing) or leaving the internal hair shaft (which causes dryness).
Many things can interfere with this cuticle, from harsh brushing to chemical processing, and these thin and weaken the hair shaft, so leading to brittleness. Your day to day haicare should therefore aim to smooth the cuticle and thicken or strengthen the hair shaft.
